The Okanagan Mission Huskies won four straight games — three of them by  shutouts — to claim their first-ever Okanagan Valley senior AA girls soccer championship recently in Penticton.

A 3-0 decision over the Valleyview Vikes of Kamloops clinched the historical win that earned the Huskies a trip to the B.C. School Sports provincial tournament in Campbell River June 2-4.

Stefanie Young scored twice and Kezia Kellet rounded out the scoring in the Valley’s title match against Valleyview.

The Huskies had already clinched a spot at provincials by winning their final round-robin game 2-1 in overtime against the Sa-hali Sabres of Kamloops. Young scored the winning goal in the second half of the sudden-death OT while she also netted the first goal off a through ball by Anna Bobyn.

OKM, unbeaten in league play this season, opened the Valley tournament by defeating Summerland 9-0 and followed up with a 4-0 decision over the Vernon Panthers.

Regan Medley, Karina Bagi and Chloe Laidlaw shared the goaltending duties during the two-day tournament while the defensive standouts were Grace Loo, Sammi Krupka, Claire Evans, Vanessa White and Jessica McIntyre.
