Desiree Robinson of George Pringle in West Kelowna heaved the shot put 8.45 metres on Wednesday at the Apple Bowl to win the Grade 5 girls event and broke the meet record of 7.88 metres set by Emily Nan Ray of Raymer Elementary in 1995.

The Grade 4 girls shot put standard of 6.3 metres was set in 1997 by Shauna Sewell of Davidson Road and broken by Faith Johnson of Mar Jok Elementary (West Kelowna) on Wednesday with a put of 7.15 metres.

The 1998 record in the Grade 6 girls discus fell as Edan Roadhouse of Davidson road reached 23.67 metres, breaking the mark (22.91) set by Megan Metz of Davidson 18 years ago.

A six-year-old record of 56.37 seconds set by Belgo Road in the boys 4x100 relay was broken this week by the Anne McClymont foursome of Nolan Humphries, Jordan Sheaff, Jadyee Huston and Max Gainey. Their combined time was 55.88 seconds.

Karleigh Podolsky’s 2011 record of two minutes 57 seconds in the Grade 4’s 800 metres was eclipsed on Wednesday by Hannah Droppo of Chute Lake when she crossed in 2:54.

The Grade 4 boys’ 800-metre record (2:44:56) set in 2013 by Darien Luchin of Anne McClymont was broken by Logan Hamilton of Watson Road when he finished in 2:43:37.

Elayna Glen’s record of 1.26 metres in the Grade 5 girls high jump — set last year — was matched by Maria Josipovic of George Pringle in West Kelowna.

About 900 children from 24 elementary schools and two middle schools took part in this year’s meet under the direction of Jim Bradshaw of Rose Valley, Derek Worrall of Helen Gorman, Dean Sader of Shannon Lake and about a dozen other key volunteers.
