Trevor Stirling’s best-ever finish at the national trampoline and tumbling championships has secured the Okanagan Gymnastics Centre athlete a berth on Canada’s senior national team.
Placing second only to Olympian Jason Burnett among 10 competitors in the Canadian trampoline final in Edmonton on the weekend, Stirling earned the right to represent Canada at several senior-level meets in Europe this summer and the 21-year-old will be an alternate for the Canadian team for the Rio Olympics.
The OGC’s Jordyn Yendley defended her Canadian Level 6 Espoir double mini championship at the national competition and added the Canadian individual trampoline crown. With the wins, the 16-year-old has qualified to represent Team Canada at the Indo Pacific championships in New Zealand in trampoline, double mini and synchronized trampoline with OGC partner Emily Welsh.
Welsh also competed in the Level 6 Espoir category earning the bronze medal on the double mini while placing sixth on the trampoline.
Cami Hill of the OGC competed in Junior trampoline at nationals, finishing sixth.
Rookie Jordan MacDonald made it to the finals in the L5 trampoline and ended up eighth while teammate Jaylin Otteson placed ninth in the DMT final.
Also competing at nationals for the first time were OGC athletes Andrew Oliver, Isabelle Gremmen and Travis Towers. Head coach is Jamie Gardiner, who was also a trampoline coach for Team BC.
