Penticton hands Warriors sixth straight BCHL loss

The Penticton Vees’ three quick goals midway through the first period proved too much to overcome as the host West Kelowna Warriors dropped a 6-3 B.C. Hockey League decision on Saturday at Royal LePage Place.

Ryley Risling, Kenny Johnson and Nicholas Jones scored within 44 seconds of each other to stake the Vees to a 3-1 first-period lead, while the Interior Division leaders (13-2) took a 4-2 lead into the third period and added a pair of unanswered goals in the final frame.

Jones’ added a second marker — shorthanded— at 9:08 of the second period to restore Penticton’s three-goal lead, while Ben Brar and Ty Amonte closed out the visitors’ scoring in the third period.

Connor Sodergren notched his sixth and seventh goals of the season late in the second period for the Warriors, who lost their sixth straight game and dropped to 5-8-1 on the season. Quin Foreman, with his ninth goal of the campaign, scored West Kelowna’s first goal in the  opening period.

Mathew Robson stopped 23 of 26 shots to earn the win in goal for the Vees while Shane Farkas took the loss in the Warriors’ net, giving up the six goals on 38 shots.

The Warriors, last in the Interior Division with 11 points, are idle  until Friday when they travel to Nanaimo to take on the Clippers. They’ll play Cowichan Valley on Saturday and Alberni Valley on Sunday.
