The third annual Telus Kelowna Cup will be at Big White on Saturday, March 4th.
The event features a psychic slalom race format as well as post-race activities.
A psychic slalom format means that each racer is allowed one run, before attempting to predict their time for the second run.
Closest prediction wins, simple as that.
The format allows skiers of all ages and skill level to participate against each other.
“We designed this race so everyone could be involved,” explained Josh Foster, Big White’s snow sports director. “It makes for such a fun day on the snow.”
Last season, the event raised $27,714 for the KGH Giving Giggles campaign and this year the proceeds will go towards supporting Big White Ski Club.
“Local athletes such as Kelsey Serwa, Ian Deans and Ned Ireland have all come out of the Big White Ski Club,” said Michael J. Ballingall, Senior Vice President of Big White Ski Resort. “As a resort, we believe in giving back, and we want to support the next generation in reaching their goals while building leadership and teamwork.”
The day’s festivities kick off at 8 a.m. in the Village with registration and a pre-competition breakfast for all racers.
Registration is just $20 per person and there’s $10,000 worth of prizes available to be won, including snowboards, skis and apparel.
The Telus Kelowna Cup is in its third year after being resurrected in 2015 following a 20-year hiatus.
