Denis Shapovalov, after taking a loss in the opening singles match, bounced back in the winner-take-all doubles game, to lift Canada to the Davis Cup semifinals, with a 2-1 victory over Germany.
The success of Team Canada comes on the heels of their last Davis Cup appearance, in 2019, when they advanced all the way to the final, eventually falling to Spain.
The knockout stages are best-of-three, with two singles matches played, then a doubles battle if teams are tied.
Shapovalov began the quarter-final tie with a three set loss to Jan-Lennard Struff. That put the pressure on Felix Auger-Aliassime for his singles match against Oscar Otte. The sixth ranked player in the world showcased his class in a 7-6 (1), 6-4 victory over Otte.
That paved the way for a doubles match, with a spot in the semifinals on the line. Shapovalov teamed up with Vernon's Vasek Pospisil. They would drop the first set to the Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz duo. However, the Canadian duo would showcase their grit, winning the next two sets 6-3, 6-3 to punch their ticket to the semi's.

Canada fielded a top notch team for the finals, with Auger-Aliassime (sixth) and Shapovalov (18th) being the highest ranked duo out of all eight quarterfinal teams.
The team now advances to the semifinals to take on Italy. The Italians are led by 16th ranked Matteo Berrettini and the always dangerous Fabio Fognini. In their quarter-final matchup against the United States, Simone Bolleli and Fognini were able to dispatch the doubles team of Jack Sock and Tommy Paul, after the two countries split their singles matches.
The semifinal games begin on Saturday, Nov. 26 and you can watch them live on Sportsnet.
Pending a victory, Canada would play the winner of Croatia and Serbia in the final on Sunday.
