With two weeks until the 2022 Winter Olympics begin in Beijing, Canada has unveiled its men’s hockey roster for the Games.

Since NHL players are not able to play for a second straight Olympics, the roster is once again a mish mash of players from leagues around the world.

Arguably the most recognizable name on the list is long-time NHLer Eric Staal, a Stanley Cup champion with over 1,000 career points.

Other notable forwards include Adam Tambellini, Adam Cracknell, Daniel Winnik, Landon Ferraro, Josh Ho-Sang, Jordan Weal and 2021 third-overall pick Mason McTavish.

McTavish is one of a handful of youngsters born post-2000 on the roster.

The first-overall pick from this past draft, Owen Power was named to the team, along with 2018 third-round pick Jack McBain, while Buffalo Sabres prospect Devon Levi is one of the team’s three goalies.

Another youngster taken in the top 10 of the NHL draft last summer, Kent Johnson will head to Beijing as one of the team’s six alternates.

Canada’s men’s team will open up the Olympic tournament on Thursday, Feb. 10 against Germany.

It’ll be a chance for revenge, as Germany knocked off Canada 4-3 in the semi-finals of the 2018 Olympic hockey tournament, which was also played without NHL players.

Germany lost to Russia, who will be the favourite again this year, in the gold medal game, while Canada beat the Czech Republic in the bronze medal game to secure a medal.
