The Vancouver Canucks announced a historic hire today.

Émilie Castonguay is the team’s new assistant general manager, becoming the first female to serve in that role in franchise history.

She joins the club from Momentum Hockey, where she became the first female NHLPA certified agent in Canada back in 2016.

Castonguay has represented a number of players at all levels, including former Canuck Antoine Rousell and recent first-overall pick Alexis Lafreniere.

"Émilie has extensive experience, is driven to succeed, and has a strong reputation in hockey for her intelligence and work ethic," said Jim Rutherford, Canucks president of hockey operations and interim GM.

"She will play a lead role in player contracts and negotiation, managing the collective bargaining agreement, and her voice will be heard in all aspects of hockey operations.”

Castonguay said it is an honour to join the Canucks organization.

"The Canucks have a passionate fan base and an exciting young team with a bright future,” she noted. “I can't wait to help build a winning organization that continues to grow and challenges for championship."

Named one of the most powerful women in hockey by Sportsnet back in 2020, Castonguay played four years of NCAA Division One hockey at Niagara University.

After graduating from Niagara with a bachelor’s degree in finance, she earned a law degree from l'Université de Montréal in 2012 and is a member of the Quebec Bar Association.
