The Kelowna United Teams finished off a great season winning 4 medals at this past weekend’s Provincial B Championships. Here are the highlights:
The Kelowna United U-17 Boys were undefeated during the four-day Provincial Tournament taking home gold.
- Game 1: KU U17 Boys - 4 CCB Akal - 4
- Game 2: KU U17 Boys - 5 SBMC United - 0
- Game 3: KU U17 Boys - 1 NVF Surge - 0
- FINAL: KU U17 Boys - 3 VUFC Santos - 2
- First game vs. CCB Akal there were goals by Shawn Kostiuk (2), James Wiebe, and Thomas Jaklis.
- Second game vs SBMC United goals by Joseph Wright, Riley Neal, Parm Parmar (2), and Thomas Jaklis.
- Third game vs. NVF Surge goal by Shawn Kostiuk.
In the final championship match played Sunday evening, KU answered the two goals scored by Vancouver United FC Santos to drive the game into extra time and penalty kicks. Shawn Kostiuk scored to put the team into overtime with Chris Van Den Heuvel scoring in the last minute of OT.
Pharm Parmar, Thomas Jaklis and Jonah Donahue scored on penalty shots with Tallan Freh making an awesome save against their 4th shooter. A final goal by Shawn Kostiuk sealed the win and the first place finish for the team.
The 2018 Provincial B Cup was held in Kamloops this past weekend with 8 teams in the U14 Girls category representing their respective areas, Kelowna United Storm came into the Tourney as Runners-up in their TOYSL Division.
- Game 1 was played in very hot conditions against Williams Lake. KU Storm came out of the gate strong and were up 3 nil at the half. Final score was 4-1 Kelowna which gave them a huge 3 points.
- Game 2 was against Vancouver Islands Champs, Cowichan Valley. In a hard fought game, KU won by a final score of 2-1 which game them another 3 points.
- Game 3 put them them up against Coastal Vancouver Athletic Venom. In another hard fought battle, KU Storm won 2-0 which put them into Sunday morning’s final against last year’s champions, Coastal North Shore interceptors.
- Game 4 and the Final was played early Sunday morning in perfect conditions against the defending U14G Champions. Both teams having some chances but strong goalkeeping from both teams had the 1st half end at 0-0.
Kelowna struck early in the 2nd half but North Shore Interceptors pulled it back right away to make it 1-1. With about 15 mins left, Kelowna got a second goal and shortly after, notched a third in a goalmouth scramble from a superb corner kick cross from Hailey Kristiansen Yeulett which put the game out of North Shore’s reach.

- Kelowna United U16 Girls – Bronze Medal Winners
- Game 1: KU U16 Girls - 2 Juan de Fuca - 2
- Game 2: KU U16 Girls - 1 Surrey United – 0
- Game 3: KU U16 Girls - 1 Kamloops Blaze – 1
- FINAL: KU U16 Girls - 3 Nelson Selects – 2
Despite dominating play, striking four posts and having two goals called back, KU could only manage to erase a two-goal deficit to draw game 1 against the Island representative.
Goal-scorers for KU were Kaley Krivoshein and Macalle White, assisted by Macalle White and Lindsay Notte.
In the second game with only one shot on goal, Surrey found themselves in tough against a highly-skilled and determined KU team.
However, KU could only finish once early in the game, but it was enough to get the result. Goal-scorer was Macalle White, assisted by Lindsay Notte.
The third game was another Thompson/Okanagan classic with first place and a trip to the final on the line. Kamloops struck first on a set piece, but Kelowna answered back within three minutes to tie.
Despite numerous chances, Kelowna was not able to get that much-needed go-ahead goal. The game finished in a draw, and due the tournament’s tie-breaking procedures, Kamloops moved onto the gold medal game.
Goalscorer was Chloe Howe, assisted by Lindsay Notte. In the final bronze medal match, Kelowna fell behind early to Nelson, but quickly drew even.
A perfectly-placed set-piece goal by KU put them ahead at the half. Both teams added second-half goals, but Kelowna was able to hang on for the result.
Goal-scorers were Chloe Howe, Payton Ward, and Macalle White, assisted by Sophia Millikin and Lindsay Notte.
