The acrobatic feat involves two people lifting someone upside down to sip out of Lord Stanley's giant silver mug.
In its 125 year history, the Stanley Cup has been through a lot, including being set on fire, damaged in a nightclub and left on the side of the road by the Montreal Canadians in 1924.
However, the Washington Capitals wild summer tour with the championship trophy has apparently crossed the line and it's due to everyone doing cup stands.
According to a recent interview with the trophy's guardian Philip Pritchard, the Capitals and all future teams have been advised to knock it off with the stands.
“We ask them politely not to do it,” Pritchard told the Washington Post. “Our biggest thing is respect for it. We’re trying to preserve the history of the Stanley Cup. We don’t want any unnecessary damage to it or a person, in case they drop the person or he presses too hard or something.”
Disappointing news for future NHL champions, but hockey players are a respectful bunch and will likely listen to the Stanley Cup's wishes.
