Okanagan College Coyotes baseball team will open their season in Las Vegas this weekend.

The 2018 National Champions go into their first game against the College of Southern Nevada with high expectations.

CSN are ranked 7th and considered a powerhouse in college baseball.

The Coyotes will also take on the College of Southern Idaho on the weekend.

They made a run to the Junior College World Series in 2018.

“It is always a tough challenge for us our opening weekend,” said Geoff White, head baseball coach for the Coyotes.

“We come from our indoor facilities and get thrown up against some very talented programs.”

Among the familiar faces representing the Coyotes will be outfielder Davis Todosichuk, a senior.

He has played for the Kelowna Falcons for the past three summers and is expected to provide leadership for the Coyote outfield.

“Davis has been a fantastic program player, having played his entire college career with us; he has continually been one of the best defensive players in our conference and country every year.” said White.

Leading the pitching staff will be fellow senior Trevor Brigden.

He attracted huge online attention last month when a video showing him throwing a 94mph pitch went viral.

It created so much attention that more than a dozen MLB teams got in touch with him because of it.

“Trevor has continued to improve year in, year out and has put himself in a position to be in the conversation of professional baseball,” said White.

The 12-day, 14-game trip – which includes a visit to Phoenix as well as Las Vegas – will help the team prepare for their 2019 championship bid in May.
