Team Canada couldn’t send the country into 2019 with a win at the World Juniors, but it was not for a lack of effort.

Once again getting off to a hot start, Cody Glass of Team Canada opened the scoring early, but Russia was able to tie it up before the end of the first period.

After a scoreless second period, the undefeated Canadian squad found themselves in a tie game with 10 minutes left in the third period.

That was until Russia’s Pavel Shen scored the winning goal to break the deadlock and lift his team to victory in the final game of round-robin play.

It was a full house at Vancouver’s Rogers Arena for the final hockey game of 2018 and those in attendance, as well as coast to coast, can take pride in how their juniors played despite the tough loss.

Canada will now play in the quaterfinals on Wednesday, when they will face the loser of U.S.A. versus Finland.
