The UBCO Heat men’s and women’s golf teams were back in action last weekend, this time hosting a PacWest tournament at the Okanagan Golf Club.

For the second straight weekend, the women’s team came out victorious thanks to another great individual effort from first-year phenom Samantha Copeland. Copeland had a three-stroke deficit going into the second round of play but then shot an 82 to secure her victory. With the tournament win, Copeland was named the Golf Athlete of the Week for the second time this season as well as the Conference Athlete of the Week for the first time.

The women would finish the two-day tournament with a score of 342, edging out the Vancouver Island Mariners by six strokes.

The men’s team experienced some deja vu as they saw themselves finish runner-up to the University of Fraser Valley for the second weekend in a row. The team shot rounds of 294 and 291, 17 shots behind UFV.

Marcus Apchin would pick up where he left off, shooting a (-1) in the tournament. Oliver Rizun also had a tourney to remember as he shot a  (+2).

The two squads will have the next weekend off where they will, without a doubt, be preparing for their September 30th tournament at the Ledgeview Golf and Country Club in Abbotsford.
