The Vancouver Whitecaps have a new man in charge.

Marc Dos Santos has been hired to replace Carl Robinson as the team’s head coach.

The Montréal native has signed a three-year contract and will manage the club’s first-team roster, which includes player transactions.

“Marc is a confident, driven leader who has proven himself as a winner at every level he has been tested,” said Jeff Mallett, Whitecaps FC co-owner.

“We were impressed by his ability to deliver a clear plan that optimizes all of our resources to measurably improve the club in critical areas.”

Dos Santos was an assistant coach for Los Angeles FC this year, helping the club set an MLS record for most points earned by an expansion side in an inaugural season.

As a head coach, Dos Santos has seen success at the USL and NASL levels, but this will be his first opportunity to lead a club in MLS.

He began his coaching education in Portugal and is fluent in four languages, English, French, Portuguese and Spanish.

“Whitecaps FC are a club with a rich history, from the NASL days, to CSL, USL and now in MLS,” said Dos Santos.

“It's a club with an incredible potential to grow and become an example for others. I believe in the structure the club has and in the passion of the people involved.”

Dos Santos has compiled a 124W-81L-70D record as a head coach across multiple professional levels and will look to build on that as Whitecaps FC’s new boss.
