The Race to Alaska is a journey that any team of sailors would be proud to finish, doing it be yourself is just another element.
Eric Pesty of Victoria was up for the solo challenge. He completed the race in a total of seven days, 22 hours and 44 minutes which became the fastest time by any solo sailor in the eight year history of the race.
Pesty beat the previous record of eight days, four hours and 16 minutes that was set in 2018 by Russell Brown.
The 1,200 kilometre race started in Port Townsend, Washington and finished at Ketchikan Harbour in Alaska. The journey took all of the participants through the cool and rigid waters which brings up multiple challenges along the way.
We Brake for Whales became the first team to complete the race in a time of five days, 18 hours and 59 minutes as they took home the $10,000 first place prize.
The second place team, the Budgie Smugglers took home the prestigious award from finishing the long journey one spot behind the winner. They took home a set of steak knives for their achievements.
