The 7th annual motionball Marathon of Sport charity event is set to start this Saturday at City Park.

For many Special Olympics athletes, motionball Marathon of Sport is an event they look forward to all year. The event is not competitive so everyone feels welcome and is part of a team.

Young professionals and Special Olympic athletes will come together for a day of sports in support of the Special Olympics movement.

Out of the 800,000 Canadians who have an intellectual disability, only 40,000 are enrolled in Special Olympics programs. All funds raised through the event will go towards expanding Special Olympics programming to increase accessibility to individuals who would benefit. Last year the event raised $108,000 for the cause; up from $74,000 the year prior.

The event will be held at City Park in Downtown Kelowna and runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. A total of 67 Special Olympic athletes are expected to participate at the event. Featured at the event will be music, food, prizes, free shirts, and 12 different sports, including beach volleyball, soccer, human foosball and more.
