Last weekend, eight senior AquaJets travelled to Vancouver to compete in the 54th Annual Mel Zajac International Swim Meet.

This high-level meet traditionally acts as a preparation meet for top ranked national and international swimmers.

Swimming alongside top swimmers proved to be a great experience for the AquaJets that made the trip

Axana Merckx (16) produced personal best times in 4 of her events, swimming the 200m backstroke in 2:24.70, the 200m individual medley (IM) in 2:26.40, the 800n freestyle in 9.30.88 and the 400m IM in 5:07.67.

Merckx’s 400m IM time came as she swam to an eighth place finish in the B final.

It also gave her a qualifying standard for the Canadian Junior Championships.

Other notable swims came from Emily Epp (16) with a personal best time in the 200m IM and an 11th place finish in 1500m free and Paige Foster (14) with best times in 200m and 400m IM.

Also, Makenna Haight (16) and Molly Hill (15) had best times in 100m backstroke, while Christina Russo's (21) time of 28.75 came as she finished 15th out of 107 swimmers in 50m butterfly.

Meanwhile, Jasper Stone (16) produced a personal best time in 400m IM and Marc Toyata (16) swam to a personal best time in 200m free.
