A new adventure app called “Pigs on Bernard” lets you travel back in time to have an adventure through Kelowna.

Kelowna Museums has partnered with the Vancouver-based QuestUpon to bring culture and heritage to life in the Okanagan. The app gives you an interactive, geo-locative heritage adventure that sends you back into Kelowna's history to answer trivia, geocache, see pigs run down Bernard in 3D augmented reality, and more.

The tour finishes off at the Okanagan Heritage Museum, where you can enter a draw for a tasty treat. (Photo Credit: KelownaNow)

The game was inspired by “Greasy Pig”, a game from the Kelowna Regatta's early days. “A pig would be greased up and dropped off the side of a boat and swimmers would try to catch it,” says Tammy Meyers, COO and Co-Founder of QuestUpon. “Over the years a few pigs made it to land and escaped. We wanted to bring that pig to life, and we did.”

“Similar to the movie, Night at the Museum, things come alive and educate people on stuff they don’t normally see in their everyday life—we are essentially providing edutainment that appeals to a broad age group.”

The QuestUpon platform has numerous quests for different communities. In Kelowna, it's a guided tour through the downtown, making history real in front of you with cutting edge technology. The augmented reality makes virtual objects live and move in the real world so that you can actually see the pigs running down the street.

“Kelowna Museums saw the unique opportunity to tell a story of the culture and history that Kelowna has,” said Miles Marziani, CEO and Founder of QuestUpon. “Their team did a great job in providing key points of interest for a walking tour that we gamified with QuestUpon.”

Still not convinced? Check out some of these reviews:

I really love the treasure hunt; watching my position on the map dynamically change as I walk around. The trivia is fun and educational. My daughter loves it. Highly recommended.

Watching pigs running down Bernard was a blast. Try it… you will be amazed!"

If you complete the tour during Heritage Week, February 16-22, you can go into Okanagan Heritage Museum and enter a draw to win your very own herd of chocolate pigs form Annegret's. The tour starts on Bernard Avenue and guides you around the downtown to finish at the museum.

The QuestUpon app with the “Pigs on Bernard” game is available in the App Store and on Android.
