Rogers has big plans for the Central Okanagan.
The company has announced a $16.5-million investment that will provide significant improvements to its wireless network in Kelowna, West Kelowna and Westbank First Nation.
It will include the construction of new towers, along with major upgrades to existing cell sites.
Work will be complete by early 2020 and customers will start to notice some major improvements in their coverage, reliability and data capacity.
It will also lay the foundation for 5G in the Central Okanagan.
“Our customers want high-quality wireless services wherever they are, from the Winter Street Market in downtown Kelowna, to skating with their family on Shannon Lake, or launching a new tech start-up,” said Rick Sellers, Rogers’ president of the BC region.
“These investments not only connect customers across Kelowna, West Kelowna and Westbank First Nation to the moments that matter most, they also prepare our network for tomorrow.”
Bruce Ralston, BC’s minister of jobs, trade and technology, says the improvements will also mean more jobs in the region, resulting in economic growth and prosperity.
Rogers has already contributed in that sense, as the company announced that it would be opening a BC customer solution centre in the Landmark District next summer.
That’s expected to bring 350 high-quality jobs to the region, which will grow to 500 over time.
In addition, Sellers will be in Kelowna today to present a $25,000 grant to the Okanagan Regional Library.
