A brief blizzard warning was issued for Metro Vancouver and Howe Sound by Environment Canada late Wednesday evening.
In the statement issued just after 9:00 p.m., Environment Canada warned of blizzard like conditions because of gusty winds, near zero visibility in snow and blowing snow.
“Travel is expected to be extremely hazardous due to reduced visibility,” read the warning. “Travel is not recommended. Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight. Blizzard Warnings are issued when widespread reduced visibilities of 400 metres or less are expected for at least 4 hours.”

Obviously sent in error, the warning statement said that the blizzard conditions were expected to develop near the Richardson Mountains overnight, which are located in the Yukon. The alert “ended” seven minutes later, assuming once someone noticed the mistake.
In Metro Vancouver and a warning remains in effect as heavy rain is expected overnight. The forecast is calling for a total of 50 to 70 mm to fall before weakening off Thursday afternoon.
