Record breaking temperatures have arrived along the Southern British Columbia coast and that weather is expected to hit the valley this weekend.
According to Environment Canada, seven weather records were broken on Thursday from Victoria to Abbotsford.
Abbotsford area: new record 34.5 old; record 32.2 set in 1965
Campbell River area: new record 33.0; old record 31.7 set in 1965
Chilliwack area: new record 34.9; old record 33.4 set in 2015
Sechelt area: new record 28.0; old record 26.9 set in 2015
Squamish area: new record 36.4; old record 31.3 set in 2015
Victoria area: new record 32.3; old record 30.0 set in 1940
White Rock area: new record 32.1; old record 29.3 set in 2015
While no records were set in the B.C. Interior, the forecast is calling for highs in the low to mid-30s Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Kelowna, Penticton and Vernon are all expected to reach a high of 35 C on Saturday and could potentially see temperature records broken.
With the hot weather comes extreme UV rays and those who will be outside during peak hours are being reminded to cover up, apply plenty of sunscreen and keep hydrated. For the latest information on weather conditions check to Environment Canada website.
