Travellers heading out of the city for the weekend will take a ride through winter.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Highway 3, from Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass, with about 15 cm of the white stuff expected.

Snow is expected to develop during the early morning hours on Friday and last until late afternoon before easing to a few flurries in the evening.

Visibility may be suddenly reduced, which could result in hazardous driving conditions.

Before you head out on the highways, make sure to check DriveBC.
