Another Halloween has come and gone and it’s hard to believe that 2019 is now less than a couple months away!

If you haven’t put your winter tires on already, it’s time to think about getting prepared for snow on the roads especially if you travel regularly at higher elevations.

It is often noticeably cooler within just one month between September and October.

There is a significant jump between the average daytime high in September for Kelowna at 21.7°C, compared to the average daytime high in October at 13.4°C. These averages are based on data between the years of 1981 to 2010.

The average daytime high recorded in October this year was 13.1°C, making our last month’s afternoon temperatures very climatically average with only a 0.3°C difference. The overnight lows were also within about a degree of average.

October 2018 saw an average daily low of 2.6°C, compared to the overnight seasonal average of 1.3°C.

Precipitation statistics for last month also ended up being very close to par.

Remember that wonderful stretch of sunny weather we had in middle to late October? Even though over half the month didn’t record any precipitation last month (18 dry days to be exact!), because we also had days with heavy rain, our precipitation totals ended up being close to seasonal.

October 2018 recorded 29.5 mm of rain, just a few tenths of a millimetre above the climactic average of 29.2 mm.

Looking ahead, we have a wet start to November as we will see multiple weather systems moving through over the next few days.

Time to invest in some decent rain boots!
