The BC Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy has issued an air quality advisory for a number of communities.
Areas in the South Okanagan, Similkameen, along with regions like Nicola, Fraser Canyon and Kootenay Lake are anticipated to experience increased smoky conditions.
- Fraser Canyon (South): Trans Canada Hwy 1 from Lytton to Choate.
- Kootenay Lake: Creston and Kaslo.
- Nicola: Merritt, Strump Lake, Pennask Lake, and Brookmere.
- Similkameen: Princeton.
- South Okanagan: Penticton, Summerland, Naramata, Keremeos, Oliver and Osoyoos.
According to the current Air Quality Data Index, most regions look to remain at a low to moderate health risk.
Those exposed to wildfire smoke, should consider taking extra precautions to reduce exposure.
Wildfire smoke is expected to linger over the next 24-48 hours.
