April 2021 Wrap Up: The dry trend continues

Since the beginning of this year, we have had drier than seasonal weather - That’s four consecutive months of unusually low rain and snow amounts.

In January 2021, Kelowna received only 43% of its seasonal precipitation amount. February 2021 received about 58% of seasonal.

In March 2021 we received just 12% of seasonal. Last month, April 2021, our total valley rain amount was 7.4mm, or 25% of typical amounts.

In terms of temperatures, we were slightly warmer in April 2021. Our average daytime high was 17.0C last month, or 1.5C above our seasonal temperature of 15.5C.

Overnight lows were also a degree above at 2.5C, compared to seasonal lows of 1.3C.

All monthly statistics in this article are based on data from the weather station at UBCO, and the seasonal statistics in this article are based on the Canadian climate normals 1981-2010 data.

The first weekend of May will see a bit of everything - partly sunny on Saturday with spotty showers in the valley, but a lovely sunny day to round out the weekend on Sunday.
