The winds are expected to pick up throughout the Okanagan Valley on Thursday.

Environment Canada has forecasted sustained winds of up to 30 to 40 km/h throughout the day.

On top of that, winds are expected to reach 60 km/h late Thursday morning and Thursday evening.

The windy weather is thanks to a low-pressure system that is expected to reach the B.C. coast on Wednesday night and push into the Interior on Thursday.

This will create the southerly winds along the Osoyoos, Skaha and Okanagan Lakes.

With high water levels in the Okanagan, these winds will generate waves that could lead to shoreline flooding and erosion.

The risk is highest for shores exposed to the south.
