Heavy rain in southern Ontario has created plenty of issues in Toronto.

A flood warning has been issued for the city and will remain in effect until Thursday, but in many areas the damage has already been done.

Toronto has seen 67 millimetres of rain already today, making it the city’s wettest day since July 8, 2013, slightly more than six years ago.

As a result, a number of roads are under several feet of water and cars have been submerged under water.

Sonny Subra, a heavy tow operator tasked with rescuing a number of the trapped vehicles, shared photos of the mess to his Twitter page.

Hwy 401, a main artery through the Greater Toronto Area, was shut down for more than an hour while crews cleared a disable transport truck that was blocking the road.

The Toronto Fire Service also reported that it responded to 12 flood-related water rescues between 9:30am and 11:30am.

An ongoing flood warning from the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority says Lake Ontario’s water levels remain high and significant wave action and lake surges are still possible.

More rain is expected Wednesday night before the skies will clear a bit on Thursday, but the wet stuff is expected to return on Friday and Saturday.
