It never rained in July. Not even once.
Environment Canada meteorologist Alyssa Charbonneau says there were some isolated showers around the region, but nothing they could even measure.
Since records were first kept in 1969, the Central Okanagan has not seen a July so dry, or hot.
According to Environment Canada, the average daily temperature for the month was 23.3 C. The norm for the month is 19.5 C.
The last time the Central Okanagan went without a single drop of rain in July was during the fire season of 2003, when the Okanagan Mountain Park Fire destroyed more than 240 homes in Kelowna.
Charbonneau says Vernon and Penticton were also bone dry during July.
She says we can expect much the same as we roll through the early days of August.
"This ridge of high pressure that is over us is still in place. We are still expecting fairly hot conditions for the rest of this week," she said.
"It was supposed to peak at the end of this week and cool slightly as we get into next week, but now it looks like it is going to stay hot."
That also means smoke from surrounding wildfires is expected to linger for the foreseeable future. The smoke could drop forecast temperatures down a couple of degrees.
