It’s a gorgeous Tuesday in the Okanagan, but the sunshine comes after record-setting cold temperatures overnight.
According to Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist, the mercury dipped to new lows in both Kelowna and Penticton for Oct. 29.
It reached -10.9 overnight in Kelowna, beating the 84-year-old record low temperature of -7.2 set in 1935.
In Penticton, the temperature dipped to -8.7, breaking the previous record low of -7.5 set in 1991.
For the record, Kelowna's weather records date back to 1899 while Penticton's go back to 1907.
Despite the chilly temperatures, the Okanagan will enjoy more sunshine heading into the weekend as an upper ridge settles into the valley.
While that weather jargon may be confusing, it basically means you won't have to scrape ice off of your car!
