While it wasn’t exactly picture perfect, the weather on Canada Day in Kelowna was at least memorable for one reason.
The not-so-typical summer weather saw sheets of rain come down across the valley and temperatures that demanded at least a sweater, if not a full-on jacket for some.
According to Environment Canada, it was the coldest July 1 in Kelowna since 1979, with the thermometer reaching a measly 16.8°C.
Kelowna wasn’t alone, with Vernon and Kamloops also recording their coldest Canada Day temps in over 40 years.
Vernon saw a high of 15.1°C on Wednesday, marking the coldest Canada Day since 1979 when the temperature only reached a high of just 12°C.
Kamloops endured a high of 15.3°C, a temperature not seen since 1979 when it also only reached 15.3°C on July 1.
The lone hotspot in the valley was Penticton, where temperatures hit 19.9°C, good for the coldest Canada Day since 1992.
Heading into the weekend, it looks like Kelowna will finally receive some sunshine, along with a bit of cloud, and temperatures in the 20s.
