It certainly wasn’t your typical mid-June day in Kelowna on Sunday.
Residents woke up to rain and even though the skies eventually cleared up a bit as the day went on, it was still quite cold.
In fact, it was so cold that the city shattered a 108-year-old temperature record for the lowest high on June 14 in Kelowna history.
The previous record of 15°C was set in 1912 and on Sunday, it didn’t get higher than 12.8°C.
Records began in 1899.
Kelowna wasn’t the only cold spot in the Okanagan on Sunday, as Penticton, Summerland and Vernon broke records as well.
Penticton only got up to 14°C, breaking the previous record of 16°C, which was set in 2016.
In Summerland, a new record of 13.4°C was set on Sunday, breaking the previous record of 13.9°C from 1912, just like Kelowna.
Meanwhile, Vernon’s high was 11.8°C on Sunday, which was well chillier than the previous record of 15.3°C, which was set in 2004.
Fortunately, for those who love that Okanagan heat, some warmer weather in on the horizon and we should be back into the mid-20s under the sun by midweek.
