The forecast calls for rain in the Central Okanagan today and we should be doing every little superstitious thing we can to help make that happen.
It’s a slim chance this morning, listed at 30% until around noon, but Environment Canada (EC) calls for a 70% chance of precipitation for the rest of the day.
On Monday, EC meteorologist Alyssa Charbonneau told KelownaNow that “remnant moisture” from Hurricane Hilary would bring some of the wet stuff to the Okanagan.
"Some of that remnant moisture is on its way to southeast BC, mostly the Kootenays and the Columbia, but it looks like the Southern Interior could be clipped with it, as well,” she explained.
KelownaNow has received reports of steady rainfall in the Kootenays overnight, including areas like Invermere and Trail, and now the hope is that it will move west.
Unfortunately, the incoming weather will also bring a risk of thunderstorms throughout the day, which was the case Monday night when the Central Okanagan experienced a few minutes of rain around 6:30 pm.
There will also be a little bit of wind later this afternoon, but it’s not expected to be anything significant enough to plague the fire fight.
The smoke will remain, although air quality and visibility have both noticeably improved over the past 12 hours.
Today’s high is 22°C and that will happen late this morning, as opposed to the late afternoon when the daytime high is typically experienced.
It will steadily fall down to 11°C between 11 am and early Wednesday morning.
