It’s going to be a blustery start to the weekend in the Okanagan.
Environment Canada (EC) has issued a special weather statement regarding the heavy winds expected to hit the valley late this afternoon and into the evening.
They will blow south between 50-60 km/h, with gusts up to 80 km/h expected to develop at times.
The areas that will be most affected, according to EC, are West Kelowna, Peachland, Summerland, Naramata and Penticton.
“A robust cold front will move across the Okanagan Valley this evening bringing strong winds and some rain,” explained the weather alert.
“The southerly winds will be the main concern as there is the potential for wind speeds of 50 to 60 km/h with gusts to 80 km/h to develop this evening prior to the arrival of the cold front.”
Motorists on the Okanagan Connector are also advised to be cognizant of strong cross winds over exposed areas of the highway during this time.
