October 2020 weather wrap up: Above seasonal amounts of precipitation fell last month

After three months of below seasonal precipitation monthly amounts in the months of July, August, and September, we had above seasonal amounts of precipitation fall in Kelowna last month.

The seasonal precipitation amount for the month of October is 29.2mm. Last month, however, the sum of the total rainfall and water equivalent of the total snowfall was 43.5mm, 148% of normal.

As for afternoon temperatures, we had a typical October this year, with an average of 12.4C for daytime highs last month, just a degree off from the seasonal conditions of 13.4C. Overnight lows were on the mild side, with October 2020’s average at 4.0C, compared to seasonal lows of 1.3C.

All monthly statistics in this article are based on data from the weather station at UBCO, and the seasonal statistics in this article are based on the Canadian climate normals 1981-2010 data.

With our stable weather pattern sticking around for the first couple days of November 2020, we are expecting dry weather for today and tomorrow, but the risk of showers return on Tuesday.
