On Tuesday night, lightning started this wildfire mess the Okanagan is currently dealing with.

Today, the region could see more thunder and lightning as Environment Canada is calling for a risk of thunderstorms starting at noon and lasting until 8 p.m.

NowMedia meteorologist, Wesla English, says it’s only a low to moderate risk, but she wouldn’t rule out the possibly.

“I wouldn’t rule out lightning/thunder in the region today,” she said. “There is weak instability, so there’s a low to moderate risk.”

“Here’s a hint, if you look outside and see any vertical development in the clouds (think ones that look like popcorn...), then there is at least some instability.”

After lightning sparked more than a dozen wildfires in the region on Tuesday, the forecast is a worrisome one to say the least.

NowMedia will update this story if the forecast changes.
