September, 2020 weather wrap up: Another dry month in the books for September 2020

For the third month in a row, Kelowna received just a fraction of rain compared to the seasonal average. At the UBCO weather station, only 9.8 mm of rain fell in September 2020, compared to the seasonal average of 32.4mm for this month.

It has been dry all summer. In the bigger picture, the seasonal average amount of total rain for the three months of July, August and September is 101.7mm. However this year, Kelowna’s weather station only received 37.3mm from July to September 2020. (18.4mm in July 2020, 9.1mm in August 2020, and 9.8mm in September 2020)

As for afternoon temperatures, we had a warmer than usual September this year, with an average of 24.5C for daytime highs last month, compared to the seasonal conditions of 21.7C. Overnight lows were also on the warm side, with September 2020’s average at 10.9C, compared to seasonal lows of 5.9C.

All monthly statistics in this article are based on data from the weather station at UBCO, and the seasonal statistics in this article are based on the Canadian climate normals 1981-2010 data.

With our stable weather pattern sticking around for the first weekend of October 2020, we are expecting the dry weather to stay at least for another several days.
