A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for the BC Interior Sunday morning.

At 9:30 am, Environment Canada said the watch was in place for the Okanagan Valley, including Kelowna, Vernon and Penticton.

The South Thompson, Nicola Valley and Shuswap have also been issued a thunderstorm watch.

According to the weather agency, atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms in these areas.

Strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain are possible.

Environment Canada advises residents across these regions that heavy rainfall can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.

Be sure to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada throughout the day Sunday.
