More haze on the menu for Kelowna today.

But NowMedia meteorologist Wesla English said things could improve by the weekend.

“Smoke remains widespread in our valley for the rest of the work week,” she explained.

“Daytime highs will remain in the low to mid 20s.”

She added: “Signs point to a change in the weather pattern this weekend that will finally have a greater effect on improving the air quality.”

The Central Okanagan is rated as level 8 on the Air Quality Health Index this morning.

Its predicted maximum today is 10+, the worst level on the scale.

Environment Canada, meanwhile, has extended its statement on poor air quality.

“By late Wednesday–early Thursday, smoke from the wildfires in the United States is expected to return to the southern third of the province,” the agency explained.

“In the longer term, more substantial improvements to air quality are expected due to a change in weather.”
