Happy New Year! We rounded off the last month of the year with a warmer and drier month compared to seasonal.

December is typically our coolest month of the year, with an average daytime high of 0.7C. Our average overnight low for the month of December is -5.9C. These averages are based on data between the years of 1981 to 2010.

In December 2018, our average daytime high was significantly warmer than average at 3.4C. Out of the 31 days last month, 25 had daytime highs above freezing with Tuesday, December 18th, being the warmest day last month at 9.2C!

When we look at the precipitation stats, December 2018 saw much less rain and snow compared to other December months. The sum of total rainfall and the water equivalent of the total snowfall in millimetres on average for the month of December is 32.6mm, but last month we only saw just over half of that amount at 17.5mm.

Looking ahead, the month of January has a similar climatic average daytime high of 0.8C and an average overnight low of -5.8C.

The first system of the year will start to move inland on Wednesday with the possibilities of flurries, and signs point to warmer air moving in by the end of the week.

Enjoy your first day of 2019!
