It’s starting to cool down here in the Okanagan and surrounding areas.

Look forward to some relief from the scorching heat we’ve been experiencing lately.

As of 7:15 a.m it's 19°C under  smoky skies with light winds. The UV index is at 0 but forecast to reach 3 today and the pollen index is low.

Wesla English, NowMedia meteorologist, says that we may have some showers with some possible storm activity in the region today.

"A drier morning, but expect thickening cloud through the day. A cold front moving across the Southern Interior will try to kick up showers with possible thundershowers when an upper low moves across the region,” says English. “Cooler conditions will also be on tap this weekend with daytime highs returning back down into the 20s."

There is a severe thunderstorm watch in effect and a special air quality statement.

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

So, if you're out exploring this weekend, it probably won't hurt to bring your rain gear.
