Western Canada is in for what could be record breaking temperatures for March this week.
Meteorologists are saying this could be one of the earliest pattern of warm weather B.C. and the rest of western Canada has seen.
A strong upper ridge building into western Canada will see temperatures in the upper teens for the first time so far in 2019. The Weather Network says that the Fraser Valley has the best chance of seeing a 20°C day.
In the Okanagan, we are expecting a welcome warm up, with temperatures in the teens.
“The upper ridge will bring mild air into the Okanagan with temperatures soaring into the teens for a few days starting this weekend,” says Wesla English, NowMedia meteorologist.
English adds that the extreme maximum ever recorded in the month of March at the Kelowna weather station was back in 1994 on March 31 at 20.8°C.
As for Alberta and Saskatchewan, the southern parts of the provinces have the potential to also break weather records.
“The chance for some 20 degree weather extends across southern Alberta and southwestern Saskatchewan early next week including the city of Calgary, where some daily temperature records are in jeopardy,” said the Weather Network.
“The record to beat on Monday and Tuesday is 18.3°C and 18.9°C, which were both set on March 18 and 19 back in 1928. Our current forecast is calling for a daytime high of 17°C on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.”
Even if we don’t break records, plenty of people are eager to enjoy the warmer weather and celebrate the coming of spring.
