BC Wildfire Updates

Battleship Mountain

This fire is currently 31755.0 hectares (estimated).

This will be the final update for the Battleship Mountain wildfire, as of September 26, 2022, at 10 a.m. it will no longer be considered a Wildfire of Note. For updates going forward, please contact bcws.pgfcinformationofficer@gov.bc.ca.

As of September 24, Battleship Mountain wildfire is classified as Being Held.

Heavy equipment is being used to mitigate road hazards. Danger tree specialists, falling coordinators and fallers continue danger tree assessment and removal.

Until further notice:
  • Until 6 a.m., Monday September 26th, the Johnson Forest Service Road is closed at Highway 29, thereafter, the closure will begin at the Gething Creek bridge (40 kilometres up the Johnson FSR from Highway 29).
  • The W.A.C. Bennett Dam Access Road is closed to the public, at the W.A.C Bennett Dam.
  • The Utah FSR is closed.

Safety
Though there is no imminent threat of wildfire, other hazards may be present. Hazards include burnt trees with failing root systems, hydrophobic soil prone to erosion, increased traffic on roadways and ongoing suppression activities. Read the Hazards resulting from the Battleship Mountain wildfire (G72150) article on BCWildfire.ca.

Nearby communities can still expect to see smoke within the fire's perimeter over the coming weeks. This is common with large wildfires, and smoke will continue to be visible until there is significant rainfall at the site. Smoke appearing from well within the fire perimeter and burned material is common. However, smoke that rises from green, unburned fuel or from outside of fire's perimeter should be reported. To report a wildfire or open burning violation, call 1 800 663-5555 toll-free or *5555 on a cellphone.
